The first part of the Rights of Future Generations publications strategy is organised around the idea of “conditions”: the conditions of practice, the conditions of the environment, but also the conditions of struggle, resistance, and experimentation.
Conditions is a series of new essays written by the Triennial participants. They may be read both as an anticipation of the themes of the exhibition, and as an expansion of the works on show. The series are collected in a book, available at the Triennial in November 2019, and subsequently distributed through the international trade.
A selection of essays is also published online, starting in August 2019, through an editorial collaboration with six leading journals: Africa is a Country, Ajam Media Collective, ArtReview, e-flux architecture, Jadaliyya, and Mada Masr.
A second publication, centred on the idea of “propositions” will reflect back on the themes of the Triennial and expand them with the contribution of external authors. It will be available in the second half of 2020.
